How is my writing scored?
Against the same criteria the official rubric describes: how well you contribute to the discussion, organization, vocabulary and grammar, each reported on the 1 to 6 band scale TOEFL has used since January 2026.
How long should my response be?
The Academic Discussion task rewards 100 words or more written in about 10 minutes. The checker enforces the same expectation.
Did TOEFL change in 2026?
Yes. Since January 2026 the test reports 1 to 6 in half bands for each section and overall, aligned to the CEFR, and Reading and Listening adapt to your performance as you go. Score reports also show a comparable 0-120 total during a transition period that runs to January 2028.
