PTE Read Aloud practice text 3

One real-format Read Aloud prompt with a model spoken answer and notes on why it scores. You get about 35 seconds to look at the text, then read it aloud once, clearly and at a steady pace. Every word counts towards your content score.

The text to read aloud

Researchers have long observed that students who explain a concept aloud remember it better than those who simply reread their notes. The act of putting knowledge into words exposes the gaps that silent revision comfortably hides from the learner.

35 seconds to prepare, up to 45 seconds to speak.

Hear it read aloud

This is the same text, read at the pace the task expects. Listen once, then read it aloud yourself and compare where the pauses fall.

Why this earns score 90

  1. The subject is long: 'students who explain a concept aloud'. Hold it together and pause only before 'remember it better'.
  2. 'reread' has two syllables, ree-read. Slowing down for that one word is worth it.
  3. Let the voice fall at 'from the learner' so the sentence has a clear end.
