Some companies now let employees work from home permanently when the job allows it. Do you think this is a good policy? Explain your opinion with reasons and examples.

I think it is a good policy, with one condition attached. The benefit is obvious to anyone who has spent two hours a day in traffic: that time goes back to your family, your sleep or your studies, and the work itself is often better, because nobody interrupts a difficult task every ten minutes. My condition is that the company has to be deliberate about what an office used to do by accident. New employees learn most of the job by overhearing it, and somebody who joins remotely can go six months without a single unplanned conversation. Where I work now we meet in person two days a month with no agenda at all, and that small amount of contact turns out to be enough.
